Club Racing

Racing at Weston

If you enjoy dinghy racing, Weston runs handicap racing from February through to the end of the year. Southampton Water's double tide enables four races to be held most weekends.

Club Racing at Weston is all year round subject to tides (apart from January when Training and Work Party Duty takes place)

 

The Sailing Calendar for 2019 splits into the following main blocks of activity

 

Races to count:

  • Freezer 7 from 12

  • Spring  7 from 12

  • Summer Saturday  5 from 8

  • Summer Sunday  7 from 12

  • Autumn  7 from 12

  • Winter  6 from 12

  • Cup weekends  4 from 6

 

Note: Single start and single class for the February Cup and the Freezer Series

 

Additionally held at intervals throughout the year are a variety of races from Cup Weekends, Pursuit races, Youth Regatta, Long distance raids and more.

WSC Classes for 2019

We have to make the following changes to the Club Classes for 2019, following the RYA PY changes at the weekend.

 

  • FAST - (Fleet no. 1) - PY 941 and faster
    (Catamarans and Monohulls)
    RO - set long windward leeward

 

  • MEDIUM ** - (Fleet no. 2) - PY 942 - 1018
    (For some open events a Med Asy Fleet may also be offered, PY 942-1109 sailing a windward leeward course (can share fast). RS600 sails in Medium. All other boats must be in correct fleet for PY handicap)

  • SLOW - (Fleet no.3) - PY 1019 and slower
    (Any boats within PY range 1015 - 1107 but having an asymmetric spinnaker sail in the Medium Asymmetric fleet.)

Courses

General Courses set, will be Windward / Leeward, Trapezoidal or Triangle at the request of Class Fleet Captains. Marker Buoys and some fixed marks will be used. Club starts will be from a shore based race box using a transit and outer distance inflatable mark. Class starts may be combined by the Race Officer for WSC club racing, this will be advised on the course board if so.

Annual Prize Giving is held providing Prizes for all Handicap Classes for each series as well as cup weekends held throughout the season.

 

Come and try sailing at WSC we offer day permits for potential new members and Club boats may also be available for hire.
