Weston Sailing Club

Coronavirus update (15th May 2020)

The WSC Sailing Committee met safely this week to discuss the latest UK Government and RYA advice about relaxing Covid-19 restrictions in England.

Weston Sailing Club will aim to act in the best interests of its members, staff, and the general public, with this in mind we will always take into account RYA and Government advice.

We are pleased to confirm that the Club will be reopening from Saturday 16th May to allow members to maintain and go sailing in their own boats, either single handed, or with their family unit.

There will be no racing, training, or catering, and the Club's boats will not be available for hire.

If you still decide to come to the club, please take into account the following guidelines:

  • Do not attend the Club if you, or anyone else in your household, have symptoms of Covid-19 or you are quarantined following a contact.

  • Do not attend the Club if you are in a clinically vulnerable or shielded group.

  • Use gloves to unlock the gates and if you are alone keep them locked and shut whilst at the club and whilst out sailing.

  • Maintain two metre social distancing at all times with other members and the general public.

  • Consider this distancing when you park your car.

  • If you do decide to take your boat out there will be no safety cover and sailing is at your own risk.

  • Please either arrive dressed to sail or change discretely in the car park or your vehicle. Please do not change in the club changing rooms.

  • The lavatories and hand basins will be accessible, but please do not use the showers or changing area. We have a duty of care to our cleaners and all members.

  • If you decide to use the fresh water hoses, wear gloves.

  • If you are going sailing please check the forecast and carefully consider your sailing experience and limits.

  • Always tell someone where you are going, what time you are expecting to return, and then do let them know you are back safely.

  • Remember to take a VHF radio or mobile phone.

Club staff and committee members may be seen in the club house on club business; please do not enter the main club room or office, even if others are using it.

We are already planning the next phases of the lock down relaxation in line with Government Covid-19 guidance; this will allow us to reintroduce more facilities at the Club where/when guidelines allow. This limited relaxation may be reversed if Covid-19 numbers start rising again.

Best wishes, stay healthy.

WSC Sailing Committee.
